Bollywood actress Amisha Patel will contest the Lok Sabha election from Rajkot in Gujarat on a Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ticket, a party official said Saturday.
Amisha has her roots in Gujarat. She hails from Sarsa assembly segment near Anand district.

In an effort to woo women voters, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate LK Advani on Tuesday vowed that if voted to power his government will give Rs.100,000 to every girl in the country by the time she is 18 year old.
"It is my promise that, if elected to form the next government, it will be our endeavor to make every girl in India a 'lakhpati' by the time she attains maturity. We will introduce a Ladli Laxmi Yojana in every state to support the girl child," the 81-year-old BJP leader wrote on his blog.

Read more »Lok Sabha polls will be held in five phases from April 16 to May 13, the Election Commission announced today.
The five phased polls will be held in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh while Bihar will have four-phased elections, Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswami told a press conference.
Maharashtra and West Bengal will witness three phased polls while Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and Punjab will have elections in two phases.
Remaining 15 states and seven union territories will have one-day polling.
