Electricity bills of about 20 lakh consumers in Ahmedabad, Surat and Gandhinagar are set to come down.

This follows the Torrent Power's decision to reduce its fuel surcharge to 70 paise per unit for the July-September quarter from 78 paise per unit in the previous quarter. A communiqu? was sent to Gujarat Electricity Regulatory Commission (GERC) early this week.

As part of Ahmedabad's 600th year celebration, Raheel Patel of Vaarso and Mihir Desai of Sambhav Infrastructure jointly came forward to plan the most decorative cake weighing 850 kg, to be cut on the February 25, at midnight at the Gajjar Hall, Law Garden.

"People representing Ahmedabad such as sculpture artists Kantibhai Patel, Ratilal Kansodariya, Jasuben Shipi and artists such as Mahendra Kadiya, Hakubhai Shah, Natubhai Mistry, Amitbhai Ambalal have been invited for the cake cutting ceremony.

Close to 11,000 people, including those from the Koli and Kshatriya communities as well as Christian families, embraced Buddhism at a function in Saijpur Bogha here on Sunday. Buddhist monks from Bhante Pragnyasheel administered the pledges to the new converts. The Ahmedabad district collector, however, said no conversion could be effective unless an official permission was granted.

Traffic policemen in Ahmedabad city of Gujarat now make challans or memos on their Blackberry phone which is given to them by the state police. The instrument enables the traffic personnel to get the entire history of the offender by just feeding his name, vehicle number and license number in the phone.

City-based Cama Motors, oldest automobile company in the state, has diversified into selling of pre-owned luxurious cars and importing of luxurious cars.

"This is for the first time in Gujarat, a luxury car dealer has come up with a unique concept of providing new and pre-owned luxury cars, high-end refurbish and design studio with repair and maintenance centre to provide end to end solutions," Cama Motors CMD Jahangir Cama told reporters here.
