While the world is reeling under impact of recession, vehicle owners in the city don't turn a hair while spending a fortune for
getting a coveted registration number. Much to the delight of Regional Transport
Office (RTO) which has garnered a whopping Rs 16.38 crore by auctioning numbers in the state this year.

The extent of passion can be gauged from the fact that Amdavadis spent Rs 4.22 crore Rs 68 lakh of which came in March alone for the special numbers at the peak of recession. "Ahmedabad topped the state in collections at auctions held by RTO. Compared to last year, there's an increase of Rs 60 lakh in earnings," said AB Gor, regional transport officer, Ahmedabad
